About Us

Built From the Ground Up. Growing to Serve More.

Hilliary Communications is a family-owned telecommunications company with deep Oklahoma roots and a bold vision: to bring world-class broadband to rural communities across the region. Our story began in 1958, when the Hilliary family purchased Medicine Park Telephone Company, serving a small mountain town in Southwest Oklahoma. From those humble beginnings—just one used aircraft switch and a handful of customers—we’ve grown into one of the largest privately owned broadband providers in Oklahoma.

We are still headquartered in our original hometown of Medicine Park, a community of just over 500 residents, where the values of hard work, service, and long-term commitment continue to guide everything we do. We recently completed construction of a new 24,000-square-foot office building to support our continued growth and investment in rural infrastructure.

We didn’t inherit a large footprint—we built one. From scratch.

Strategic Growth Through Acquisition

Over the past decade, we’ve led one of the most aggressive expansion efforts in rural telecommunications, acquiring and transforming legacy networks into modern fiber-optic systems. These acquisitions are more than business transactions—they represent our commitment to preserving local service while delivering state-of-the-art connectivity.

Our acquisitions include:

  • Oklahoma Western Telephone Company (SE Oklahoma) – 2016
  • Electra Telephone Company (N. Texas) – 2019
  • Tatum Telephone Company (E. Texas) – 2019
  • Border to Border Communications (S. Texas) – 2019
  • Prairieburg Telephone Company (Iowa) – 2021
  • Southwest Oklahoma Telephone Company – 2021
  • Lipan Telephone Company (N. Texas) – 2024
  • Oklahoma Communications Systems (formerly TDS, Oklahoma) – 2025
  • Mid-America Telephone Company (formerly TDS, Oklahoma) – 2025

Each of these companies brought a unique history and community presence. We’ve honored those legacies by investing heavily in infrastructure, upgrading service areas with cutting-edge fiber networks, and ensuring long-term sustainability for future generations.

Investing in Infrastructure—and Information

Today, Hilliary Communications is currently constructing more than  $250 million in broadband infrastructure buildout across Oklahoma and Texas—a transformative investment that will expand access, improve reliability, and strengthen local economies.

We don’t just deliver connectivity—we also deliver content. Hilliary owns and operates a growing media division, including the Southwest Ledger, the Oklahoma Radio Network, Oklahoma News Network, and Energy Today. Through these platforms, we help amplify the voices and stories of the communities we serve.

We provide service to thousands of customers across homes, businesses, schools, tribal nations, healthcare facilities, and rural enterprises. Our team is driven by a belief that broadband is not a luxury—it’s a necessity—and we’re committed to ensuring no community gets left behind.
